World Cup treble for Trina

Trina Gulliver picked up a hat-trick of titles as England’s darts players dominated the WDF World Cup in Castlebar, Republic of Ireland.

England became the first country to make a clean sweep of the overall team titles - men’s, women’s and youth’s - with their players also winning all the finals on the closing day.

Gulliver teamed up with Deta Hedman to win the women’s pairs, with the duo overcoming the Netherlands’ Fransisca Hoenselaar and Karin Krappen 6-5 in the final.

She then went on to beat Wales’ Julie Gore 7-6 to win the women’s singles after seeing her opponent miss two shots at a double for the match.

The performances of Gulliver and Hedman also earned England the team trophy.

Scott Waites beat Martin Adams in an all-England final in the men’s singles.

Meanwhile, Nigel Heydon’s return to form continued with another quarter-final appearance in the latest PDC Players’ Championship in Nuland, the Netherlands.

Heydon beat Adam Hunt, Mark Dudbridge, Gary Anderson and Mervyn King before losing 6-4 to eventual runner-up Dave Chisnall.

Steve Beaton reached the fourth round before bowing out to Michael Smith.
