Winning debut for the county’s new England junior international

Room, who has joined Whitnash after recently moving from Buckinghamshire, played three to clubmate Maureen Tims who, with Ann Webb and Liz Westell (both Welford), scored six shots on the 11th end to eventually claim a 26-16 success.

The highest winning rink went to Janet Scott who skipped Di Green (both Sherwood Park), Lynne Innes (Stratford) and Wendy Holloway (Welford) to a resounding 32-14 victory.

Maureen Edwards with Sigrid Thomas (both Rugby Thornfield), Chris Ward (Lillington) and Pat Bax (Rugby Ladies) claimed six shots on the fourth end and followed it with seven on the seventh to help them to a 29-21 win.

Stratford’s Liz Chedgzoy claimed Warwickshire’s other end with a 19-17 win.

Grange played host to the battle of the sexes as Warwickshire’s men took on the county’s women in a rain- shortened 15-end game.

It was the men with the biggest grins during the after-match meal as they took the game 78-58.

County president Brian Mace-Humphries together with Malcolm Wickens (Royal Leamington Spa), Malcolm Welch (Lillington) and Bruce Truman (Rugby) led the way for the men, winning 12 out of 15 ends to seal a 27-3 victory.

The highest winning rink for the ladies went to Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Gloria Higgins (Royal Leamington Spa), Jean Veart and Joan Hall (both Nuneaton) who won 15-9.

Ladies’ president Chris Richards ended the afternoon by awarding a blazer badge to Lillington’s Pat Gagg.

The Warwickshire Women’s Bowling Association’s tour to Camarthen resulted in the ladies winning six of their seven games.

Three Spires’ Pat Moore was the only bowler to skip two victories.
