When the going gets tough, Unitt gets going

Long Itchington’s Elspeth Unitt revelled in the muddy conditions as Hatton Country World staged the second race in the Mid-Warwickshire Primary Schools’ Cross Country League.

Unitt, who was fourth in the opening race at Southam College, overhauled early leader Ava Barnes (St Paul’s) to claim victory.

Barnes held on for second, with St Margaret’s runner Elise Edgar, winner in Southam, having to settle for third.

Top-ten finishes from Emily Bragg (sixth) and Emma Smithson (eighth) helped Telford take the girls’ team prize from Long Itchington.

Milverton’s Harry Wimpenny was a clear winner of the boys’ race.

It was an impressive turnaround from Wimpenny, who was sixth in the series- opener.

Max Zwarteveen (Telford) claimed second place to add to his victory at Southam College, with Eli Whitlock (St Joseph’s) third.

Milverton edged out Telford by a point to win the boys’ team prize.

The third race in the series will take place on Saturday November 7 at Priors Field School, Kenilworth.
