Warwick Boat Club pairing claim double gold

The double of Paul Gosling and André Delahaye won gold in the masters C double sculls event, while Chris Skuse and John Charlesworth picked up two golds, one in the masters E coxless pairs and the other in the masters D coxless pairs.

The duo beat Express from Cambridge and Pengwern in the masters D final in 3min 41sec, a time which would have been good enough to have claimed gold at last year’s World Championships.

They completed their double by overhauling Waterford-based crew Cappoquin in the final 100 metres of the double sculls, much to the delight of Skuse.

“Winning one gold is great,” said Skuse. “But winning two on the day was the icing on the cake.”

Gosling and Delahaye, meanwhile, qualified for their final in second place before executing an aggressive game-plan in the final to take the gold by more than three seconds in an impressive time of 3:26.51.

Following last year’s weather-disrupted season, Boat Club have hit the ground running in 2013 with wins at the Leicester Regatta for Skuse and Charlesworth in the masters D coxless pairs and Sarah Kelly, Emma Pinchbeck, Sarah Roe and Faye Snowdon in the women’s coxed four.

The quartet followed up with a win at the Evesham Regatta, where there was also a victory for Mel Rose and Cath Keeling in the women’s novice double sculls and Gosling and Delahaye in the masters C double sculls.
