Stone claims a clean sweep of county breaststroke titles

Leamington’s elite swimmer Ellen Stone outclassed her rivals with a sensational display at the Warwickshire County Championships.

The 17-year-old easily defended her 2013 titles in the 50m and 200m events and added a first in the 100m in 1min 15.95sec to complete a breaststroke clean sweep.

Stone also added silver in the 200m individual medley and achieved a Midland Qualifying Time in the 50m freestyle before joining teammates Ruby O’Brien, Hannah Greenshield, Sarah Brades and Felicity Dempster in the freestyle and medley relays where they took silver in both.

A brilliant 800m freestyle from Dempster secured gold and a National Qualifying Time (NQT) of 9:27.65 with the 14-year-old claiming another NQT in the 200m event on her way to bronze.

Brades, 17, claimed gold in the 200m backstroke, while Greenshield, 16, produced two personal bests on her way to bronze medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly.

Fifteen-year-old Ruby O’Brien gained a bronze in the 50m freestyle thanks to her second PB of the meet, while Hannah Pickett, 15 and Maddie Spalding, 17, took second and third places in the 50m backstroke for the 15 to 18 age group.

All-rounder Harry Manship, 14, secured bronze medals in the 200m individual medley and 50m and 100m freestyle and silver in the 100m butterfly, with a blistering swim of 29.82 in the 50m fly earning him gold, with Philip Warren in third.

Warren added two more bronze medals, while Harrison Astill, 9, gained one gold and four bronze.
