Stickley's five-goal haul helps Warwick sink Shrewsbury

The visitors were 4-0 up inside the first ten minutes courtesy of doubles from Stickley and Tim Williams-Ellis.

Two sloppy goals allowed Shrewsbury back into the game, but Warwick refocused after the interval and two further strikes from Stickley wrapped up the points.

John Kane added a seventh on his return to the first team before the hosts pulled two goals back.

However, Stickley had the final say, roofing his fifth of the game to wrap up the scoring.

Warwick 2nds suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to fellow mid-table side North Stafford, while the 3rds were held to a 4-4 draw by Leicester.

Alp Shaw scored twice, with Andrew Dellow and James Slora also on target.

Warwick 4ths went down 7-0 at Warwick University 4ths, while a Steve Lycett double earned the 5ths a 2-1 win over Rugby & East Warwickshire 6ths.

Warwick Women’s 1sts were handed a lesson in finishing as they suffered a 4-1 defeat against league leaders Leek.

Leek took an early two-goal lead and despite Kirstin Bryce pulling a goal back, Warwick were unable to turn further pressure into goals.

And the leaders showed them how it was done with two second-half efforts to seal the points.

The women’s 2nds also faced the top side in their division, coming away with a respectable 1-1 draw from Atherstone.

Warwick fell behind inside the first ten minutes but aided by woeful finishing and the efforts of keeper Widge Tunnicliffe, managed to keep the deficit to just one goal at the interval.

The plan was to keep it tight after the break and try and sneak a goal and it worked to perfection when Hannah Wishart touched the ball home after a probing run from Liz Holding.

Warwick Ladies 3rds lost 4-2 to Shipston 1sts with only the valiant efforts of player-of-the-match Ellie Bailey saving them from a heavier defeat.

Warwick Women’s 4ths’ phoenix-like rise from the ashes continued at the weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 win over second-in-the-table Olton & West Warwicks 4ths.

The victory kept alive Warwick’s outside chances of promotion from Warwickshire Division Four following on from a season in which they finished bottom of the division.

Despite the school half-term impacting availability, Warwick produced a superb defensive display in the first period to withstand a dominant performance from the experienced Olton side.

A change in tactics after the interval allowed Warwick more of the play and with ten minutes remaining a superb left-wing run from Fleur Maynard led to a measured pass across goal which was finished off by Livvi Ray for the only goal of the game.
