Rising star Perry gets the better of Beddoes

KENILwORTH Squash Club’s Sarah-Jane Perry made a successful debut at top string for French League One team Mulhouse in Lille.

Interestingly, her first opponent was Emma Beddoes, her Warwickshire county team-mate from Leamington, who plays for the home team WAM.

The more experienced Beddoes was a clear favourite having beaten Perry 3-0 in their two previous meetings and shaded the first game 11-9.

Perry, who has risen six places to 29 in the latest world rankings, started to pressurise Beddoes by moving her around the court with a combination of accurate holds and length shots, and won the second.

Beddoes raced to a 6-0 lead in the third, but a controversial let decision proved to be the turning point of the match, with Perry then scoring 11 consecutive points to take the game.

Perry then went on to claim the next game to win the match 3-1.

Perry also scored a comfortable 3-0 victory over Nathalie Fichet from Squash Royan to lead Mulhouse to back-to-back 3-0 victories.

The 22-year-old heads to the Cayman Islands later this month to take part in the World Championships.
