RUGBY BRIDGE CLUB

With coronavirus lurking in the wings, bridge sessions are continuing as normal for the time being, but the situation will be kept under careful review.

The highest score of the week came on Tuesday, when Sue Osborne and Wendy Pattinson notched up 65%, comfortably ahead of Craig Hutton and Peter Baines, with Kath Lightfoot and Patti Jarvis third.

Debbie Welch (in a rare appearance) and Peter Baines were the winners on Thursday, with Roger Ward and Maria Smyth second and Phil Beagley and Pam Southern third.

There was a particularly exciting finish on Friday, with two pairs – Jane Walker and Sally Nicholson; Pam Southern and Wendy Pattinson – finishing equal top. Phil Beagley and Mary Kerridge were third.

RUGBY VILLAGE BRIDGE CLUB

Our popular short duplicate Monday Afternoon last week, nine tables played a Web Mitchell movement. Val Jones & David Edwards got the best North / South result with 66.07; East / West was led by Carlyn Miller & Sheila Mann with 66.96.

Eight tables played a Share and Relay Mitchell movement on Monday Evening. North / South was led by Dennis Angove & Rosemary Jordan with 58.04; Geoff Bennett & Max Kynoch got the best East / West result with 58.93.

On Tuesday Afternoon thirteen tables played a two-winner Web Mitchell movement. North / South was led by Richard Gibson & Terry Leary with 63.07; Maria Smyth & Patti Jarvis got the best East / West result with 72.54.

Unbalanced Opening Hands was the topic on Wednesday Morning. three tables practised a variety of situations, talking about the outcomes on each board.

Overcalls was the topic on Thursday Morning. Four tables practised the topic.

On Thursday Afternoon Don Prowse & Pauline Smith led a seven table Hesitation Mitchell movement with 60.42. The current Champagne Individual Handicap round is led by Pauline and in second place, Lyn Stubbins.
