Oh, what a night for Kingscote as he scoops two Warwick winners

With a number of fancied horses coming home in front, there was plenty of fun to be had despite the wintry weather at Warwick’s Ladies’ Night on Saturday.

Racing honours went to jockey Richard Kingscote, who took the last two races aboard Capo Rosso and Finesse.

Capo Rosso won twice last year and, having been dropped 2lb in the ratings following his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket, comfortably took the Aston Manor 30th Anniversary Handicap over seven furlongs and looks a horse to follow through the summer.

Finesse continued the good run of trainer Ralph Beckett when taking the concluding Official Ladies’ Night Afterparty At Altoria Handicap, readily holding off Wise Venture and George Baker.

Ten had set out in the opening race for lady amateur riders over six furlongs and it produced a close finish as Katie Margarson brought the aptly named Artful Lady up the stands rail to hold the challenge of Master Of Disguise.

The win topped off a good day for Newmarket trainer George Margarson, father of the winning jockey, who had taken the Betfred Victoria Cup at Ascot with Excellent Guest earlier in the afternoon.

Jana was the early favourite to take the PSA Peugeot Citroen Maiden Auction Stakes for trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Richard Hughes, but there was late support in the market for Kidmenot, who was backed into 7-4 to score at her fourth attempt.

There was a delay to the start when Thewandaofu reared up in the stalls but, at the business end, it was Kidmenot who ran on the strongest to catch early leader Mr Matthews.

The runner-up changed his legs several times on the good to firm going and should be seen to better effect with some cut in the ground.

Bathwick Street collared long-time leader Keep Kicking to take the evening’s longest race, the BAM Construction Handicap over a mile and seven furlongs, completing a hat-trick of winning favourites.
