Leamington C&AC appeal for new Masters

Leamington Masters are looking to strengthen their squad as they aim to build on last year’s Midland Gold Trophy success.

Birchfield Harriers and Tamworth AC and holders Rugby & Northampton were among the big names beaten by Leamington.

And, as they bid to retain the trophy this season, the team are particularly looking to attract athletes aged over 60.

Training for the Masters’ team is on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sunday mornings at Edmondscote Track in Leamington.

Anyone interested in joining this friendly and competitive club should contact team managers Tony Foster on 07916 468525 or Lorraine Benton on 07816 384756.

The team start their season on May 11 at the Edmondscote track and all support is welcome.

Meanwhile, Benton and Foster competed in the Kidderminster & Stourport AC Masters open meeting.

Benton was pleased to win her W50 100m sprint with a time of 16.4sec on her comeback from a hamstring injury.

“Although the time was relatively slow, I was pleased to get over my long-term injury and am now able to prepare for the coming track season,” said Benton, who also won her W50 javelin with a distance of 15m 76cm.

Foster won the M50 javelin with a throw of 28m 46cm, while also knocking five seconds off the 800m time he set indoors last month on his way to victory in 2min 28sec.

However, he went off too quickly in the 400m and despite taking the lead at 250m he fell away to finish in 61.0sec.
