King makes the most of memorable circuit

JORDAN King ramped up his efforts to steal the 2012 Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC) laurels with an eye-catching podium hat-trick in the latest outing at Most – meaning the talented young Warwickshire will go into the final two rounds still very much in contention to clinch the coveted crown.

King returned to Most with happy memories of the challenging Czech circuit, having claimed his maiden NEC rostrum there 12 months earlier – but also aware that he would be on the back foot somewhat.

“I always enjoy the tracks I’m quick at,” said King.

“It’s all medium-speed corners, and you never really get a break around the lap.

“I was confident we would be on the pace there after last year, but those drivers who are not officially registered to compete in the Formula Renault Eurocup – which included my two main championship rivals – were offered a test session in the build-up to the race weekend whereas the rest of us weren’t, and that gave them an advantage in dry conditions right from the start.”

Still by some margin the highest scorer of the meeting – narrowing his gap to the top of the points table from 64 to 51 in the process – King might be approaching the last five races as the hunter in the title duel, but he is also the man with the momentum on his side.

He has a strong track record at both of the remaining two circuits – Zandvoort in the Netherlands and legendary Belgian Grand Prix venue Spa-Francorchamps – and is aiming to pile the pressure on championship leader Jake Dennis.

“We’re up against it but just one ‘did not finish’ for Jake could turn everything around,” King said.
