Khalsa sitting pretty after latest success

Khalsa recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 at Olton & West Warwick and now sit in a comfortable mid-table position in the Conference North.

Khalsa’s Alex Idoine was twice denied by the Olton keeper from short corners, while Chris Darling and Amritpal Atwal were creating havoc down the flanks.

However, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock, with a neat cross from the left cleverly deflected into the corner after a sweeping breakaway.

Micky Hayer squandered a chance to equalise for Khalsa after being put one on one with the keeper, but he made amends by retrieving the ball and earning a short corner from which Khalsa opened the scoring.

Aaron Nagra stepped up to drill the ball into the corner and the momentum was now with the visitors.

Ben Stephenson and Jo Colantonio linked up well to force the ball into the opposition circle and Anit Chudasama earned another short corner.

Nagra reprised his earlier heroics with another well-placed shot to put Khalsa into a match-winning lead

In a scrappy final ten minutes several yellow cards were dished out, while Chris Hurst made an unorthodox save with his head from a short corner to preserve Khalsa’s advantage.

Khalsa 2nds were left to rue a key umpiring decision after losing 4-0 at Rugby & East Warwickshire.

Already trailing 2-0, Khalsa had goalkeeper Keith Distin yellow-carded and conceded two further goals in his absence to put the game beyond them.

Khalsa were twice pegged back by Stratford after taking the lead through Balbir Singh Sarai and Adrian Betts.

However, a second goal for Betts restored their advantage and the game was abandoned at half-time and awarded to Khalsa after a Stratford player was taken seriously ill.

A last-minute strike from David Bryce earned Warwick Men’s 1sts a point at home to Nottingham University in Midlands Division One.

Warwick went 1-0 down in the 15th minute and were lucky not to fall further behind after their keeper was sent off while conceding a penalty flick.

However, man-of-the-match Andrew Westrope stepped in to save the resultant flick and buoyed by this Warwick got back on terms courtesy of a fine individual goal from Steve Cook.

The students restored their lead after the break, but Warwick kept battling and Bryce pounced with time running out, slotting home the rebound after Emlyn Evans’ initial effort had been saved.

A disappointing 3-2 defeat to Stourport has left Warwick 4ths just outside the relegation zone in the West Midlands Premier.

Too often Warwick made the wrong decision and despite a spirited comeback cancelling out a two-goal deficit, a late goal condemned them to defeat.

The men’s 5ths, meanwhile, remain top of South West Two after a 6-0 thrashing of Worcester 7ths.

Steve McCarty and Tom Corke scored two goals apiece, with Tom Bickerton and Rob Foggarty rounding off the scoring.
