International gold for Williamson

Leamington C&AC’s Monica Williamson finished fourth in the W50 category to help England to gold in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International at Queens University, Belfast.

The race took in three laps of a flattish 2k circuit, with enough boggy and muddy patches and inclines to ensure it was a tough test for the competitors.

Williamson finished strongly, overtaking several athletes to end up as the second English runner, coming home in 23:29 for 22nd overall.

The overall winner of the race was England’s Clare Martin (W35) who took the title for the third year in a row.
