History in the making for champion Sedgwick

Southam College student Alex Sedgwick has been crowned 2011 British WTP Cadet kart champion with a race to spare.

Twelve-year-old Sedgwick, who races a JM Racing Team factory-supported kart, kicked off his challenge for this year’s British Championship in April by winning the first three rounds.

The second-round victory also saw him become the first driver in the championship’s ten-year history to win all three qualifying heats, qualify on pole position, set the fastest lap and win the final.

Two further wins and a third place resulted in Sedgwick taking a 14-point lead into the penultimate round, where he again qualified on pole and set the fastest lap on his way to his sixth race victory - also a record.

The youngster, who now has the right to display the No 1 plate on his kart, will shortly be testing a range of different karts as his team prepare to move up to a more powerful class next year.
