Northwood excels on Italian trip

Kenilworth club champion Luke Northwood represented England in a four-man team under-16 international championship at Biella Golf Club in Italy.

Out of a field of 133 players from around Europe, the talented Northwood finished 15th overall in the individual championship and helped England to second place in the Nations Cup.

Northwood had further cause for celebration after recording his first hole-in-one at the par-three 17th in the opening round.

Meanwhile, 136 players representing 37 clubs from nine different counties enjoyed the Ladies Autumn Open at Kenilworth.

Fulford Heath duo Julie Ingram and Georgina Foxwell came out on top in a keenly-contested event and lifted the Minns Cup with 40 points.

The best front nine was won by Gail Neill and Anne Bourne (Scraptoft), while Liz Brown (Kenilworth) and Eileen Tatton (Moor Hall) took the best back nine prize.

Johnny Carlin won the Joe Gardner Memorial Trophy by scoring 40 points.

Steve Holt took the runners-up prize by virtue of a better back nine than Ben Hammond, John Duguid, Nick Wright, James Leggitt, Richard Lane, Ray Bevan, John Slater and Martin Bradley after they all amassed 39.
