Wilding leveller

Brakes were gifted a late equaliser on Saturday which at least guaranteed their name went into the hat for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

A sluggish start saw the visitors cruise into a two-goal lead, but a swift reply from Chris Murphy ensured a foothold in the tie and, after creating the better second-half chances, Leamington were worthy of a draw.

After an uneventful opening, the visitors took the lead in the 14th minute with Steve Basham sweeping home a low centre.

Six minutes later, Brackley doubled their lead when Francis Green beat Tony Breeden to the ball and hooked his shot into the net.

The goals sparked Leamington into life and they quickly halved the deficit. Chris Murphy sent Craig Wilding away down the left and then accepted the return pass on the edge of the area before driving a low shot which Darren Acton could only parry inside the near post.

An improved second-half performance saw Brakes produce an equaliser out of nothing with ten minutes remaining.

Acton tried to shepherd a long ball from Richard Batchelor out of play near the corner flag only to be dispossessed by Wilding, who ran the ball into an empty net.

Brakes had chances to finish the tie in the closing stages with Batchelor sending a header clattering off the crossbar and Luke Corbett denied by a desperate block from Acton.
