Town provide Shearsby with first victory

KENILWORTH TOWN 2 ENVILLE ATHLETIC 1

Kenilworth came from behind to earn their first win under new manager Barry Shearsby and their first Midland Combination Division Two victory since August.

Sloppy defending allowed Enville to open the scoring through Simon Ward, but Town produced the perfect response with Joe Graham equalising within 30 seconds.

But despite dominating the second half, the hosts had to wait until five minutes before the final whistle to score the winner, Andrew Felton converting an Adam Edwards cross.

And Shearsby said it was no more than his side deserved.

“We could have let our heads drop after making a mistake at the back, but it was a good response to come straight back,” said Shearsby.

“After half-time we were definitely the stronger side and we got our just deserts with a great finish from young Andy.”

Despite having only overseen two games in charge at Gypsy Lane, the former Southam boss said he has already been impressed by the quality of football on show.

“It’s hard to get players to commit to the club, but the level of football hasn’t been as bad as I thought it might be.

“Teams get the ball down and it has allowed us to go out and try and play.”

Meanwhile Town’s reserves won 2-1 at Alveston - their fourth successive victory - to move up to fourth in Division One of the Stratford Alliance.
