Southam United Yellow are picture perfect after first win

The lure of appearing in the Courier and Weekly News inspired one young football team to their first win of the season last weekend.

Southam United Yellow under-tens had lost every game in the Coventry Junior League Division D, leading to manager James Holmes promising to get their picture in the paper when they secured their first points.

And, with the words of their manager ringing in their ears, Southam came back from 4-1 down to beat Whitely Colts 6-5, with Lewis Holmes scoring five and Max Hutubise also on the mark.

Whitnash Town under-nines’ winning streak came to a stuttering end at Banbury Irish.

Town trailed at the break to a penalty and saw several chances go begging after the interval before Banbury doubled their advantage following a goalmouth scramble.

With Whitnash chasing the game, Banbury then added two more to complete a 4-0 win.

Whitnash under-14s continued their impressive away form with an emphatic win at Kenilworth Town.

Leamington Development Squad under-16s finished the year on a high with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Stourbridge in the Midland Junior Premier League.

Leamington started brightly and spurned numerous chances before Josh Tiff finally made the early pressure count, rifling home from 25 yards.

Chances continued to come Leamington’s way but they were unable to extend their lead before the break.

After the interval, Leamington continued to take the game to Stourbridge but they were again unable to capitalise on their dominance.

A Sam Harris piledriver which hit the bar was the closest they came to extending their lead.

Stourbridge had a period of pressure but good defending from Jack Price and George Clarke kept the hosts at bay and earned Leamington three points which moved them up to third in the table.
