Saints itching to get back in action

The match fell victim to the weather for the second time last Tuesday when it was called off after a pitch inspection at 2.45pm.

Saturday’s match had also been cancelled when heavy rain left a waterlogged patch in the penalty area at the clubhouse end and further falls through Monday and Tuesday meant the tie had to be rearranged again.

Tomorrow, Saints are at Coventry Copsewood in the third round of the Coventry Telegraph Challenge Cup.

Lee Knibbs’ team go into the contest having not played for three weeks since beating Stretton Eagles 6-4 in the Les James Memorial Challenge Cup.

Saints won the trophy in 2010-11 when defeating Alvis, but the Coventry side got their revenge when knocking them out last season.

The rearranged Vase tie means that Saints will not now play Blackwood on Tuesday and will have completed no league fixtures this month.

 Southam United’s youth team continued their winning streak with a 5-1 success over Premier Division side Boldmere St Michaels in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup at Southam College on Monday night.

Danny Shanahan scored twice, with Sam Cantalapiedra, Steve Thomas and Emmanuel Atugo also on target.

On Saturday, Southam’s under-18s went down 2-1 to Brackley Town in the Midland Junior Premier League, with Ben Tennant scoring Saints’ goal.
