Leaders knocked off their perch by Town

Kenilworth pulled off a stunning 2-1 home win against Division One leaders Knowle to provide the new management duo of Wayne Goss and Rich Kay with their first home win.

The hosts took the lead with a 25-yard free-kick from skipper Matt Seeley and doubled their advantage when Leon Hewitt took advantage of a defensive mistake to score at the second attempt after his initial effort had come back off the post.

Knowle were a much-improved side after the break and halved the deficit from the spot.

However, Kenilworth were able to regain a measure of control as the game became bogged down in midfield and comfortably held on to take the three points.

Assistant boss Kay said the win would provide an excellent plaform for the remainder of the campaign.

“The team’s improving every week and we’ve got a target in mind for the remaining games,” said Kay.

“We need to keep improving and will be looking to build on this with our upcoming games against mid- table Shirley Town and Earlswood.”

Town’s reserve side recorded a 2-1 win against Quinton in Division One of the Stratford Alliance to boost their survival hopes.

Vlad Polak produced a neat finish to open the scoring, with Shane Tait giving Town a 2-0 interval lead.

A sustained spell of pressure resulted in Quinton pulling a goal back but Town saw out the closing stages with few alarms.

“We’ve got a good bunch of lads here and if we can keep working hard every week then we’ll get a positive result more often that not,” said manager Ben Main.

In Division Three, Town’s A team recovered from the embarrassment of handing rock-bottom Wickham Warriors their first point of the season by beating Red Alert in midweek.

Town twice came back from a goal down to share the spoils with Wickham thanks to goals from Kurt Millward and Matt Legg.

Kurt Millward, Vlad Polak and Tom Holmes were on target in the 3-2 win over Red Alert.
