Brakes just missing luck in front of goal - Holleran

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Bideford extended his side’s winless sequence to eight games and left them nine points adrift of the Southern Premier Division play-off places, albeit with games in hand on many of their rivals.

But having seen several gilt-edged chances go begging for a second Saturday in succession, Holleran said it was only a change in fortunes his side were lacking.

“The last few games the performances have been right up there even if the results haven’t been,” said Holleran.

“On Saturday we played some good football on a difficult pitch and could have had four or five goals but it ends up 1-1.

“All we can keep trying to do is creating the same amount of chances and by the law of averages we’ll start winning games.”

After being held by the division’s bottom side, Brakes face another struggling outfit tomorrow when they entertain Frome.

Nick Bunyard’s side are six points from safety and Holleran is in no doubt how they will be set up for the trip to the New Windmill.

“Frome are another difficult test out of all the bottom sides.

“They’ve got a few new players in and they’ll be tough to break down.

“But as much as they need points to stay up, we need them to get back into the play-off picture.”

That challenge is not being helped by the amount of call-offs recently, however.

The second postponement of their Red Insure Cup clash at Aylesbury United on Wednesday night saw the tie rearranged for this Wednesday and means Tuesday’s proposed league clash with Dorchester will be pushed back again.

“I’m concerned about the amount of games we’ve got coming up on heavy pitches,” he said.

“It really kills the players and there were a lot of tight calves after Saturday.

“That’s where the concern is when we’re playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.

“But there are a fair few other clubs in that position.”

Will Green is expected to have recovered from a tight hip flexor which flared up in the warm-up at Bideford last Saturday, while James Mace is available after suspension.
