Town are unable to build on Edmunds’ captain’s innings

Kenilworth crashed to a nine-wicket defeat against Hampton & Solihull to leave them at the foot of the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division after two matches.

The Warwick Road outfit were bowled out for 174, losing their last six wickets for 36 runs after skipper Dave Edmunds had compiled an impressive 77 containing six boundaries and five sixes.

Neil Goodman chipped in with a solid 42, hitting three fours.

Hampton strolled to an easy win with nine overs to spare as Proudman hit 77 and Khan 74 in a 122-run unbeaten second-wicket partnership.

Kenilworth 2nds were again second best in their second Division Two match of the season.

Town could only post 108 all out at Knowle and Dorridge who reached their target for the loss of just three wickets with 20 overs to spare.

James Adamson was Kenilworth’s top scorer with 27, while Ant Kerry made 24.

Al Barnett’s unbeaten 38 guided Knowle to an easy win.

Leek Wootton 2nds edged to a two-wicket win over Kenilworth 3rds with three balls to spare in a keenly fought Cotswold Hills Division Seven encounter.

Wootton skipper Rob Bayliss hit his third maximum to take Wootton past Kenilworth’s 169 for nine, completing a fine all-round performance.

David Howe had earlier made 43, Ed Smith 30 and Geoff Hay 20 for Kenilworth, with Bramley picking up three for 27, Bayliss a very tidy two for 18 off his ten overs and Clayton two for 34.

Allison put Leek Wootton on their way with 47, hitting seven boundaries and a six.

Ed Smith took three for 18 off his ten overs, skipper Sam Leach two for 29 and Chris Beach two for 41 for Kenilworth but their efforts were in vain as Bayliss finished unbeaten on 54.

Kenilworth sampled victory on Sunday, however, completing a 49-run friendly victory over Coventry Ramblers.

Kenilworth posted 194 for nine with Chris Prophet scoring a solid 61 (7x4, 3x6) and James Nason hitting 55, 46 of which came courtesy of boundaries.

In reply, Ramblers were bowled out for 145 as Jorjeet Singh snapped up an impressive five for 20 and Matt Smith took two for 27.

 Kenilworth under-11s opened their Cotswold Hills League campaign with victory over Bidford-on-Avon.

Starting on 200 runs in the eight-a-side pairs league, Kenilworth lost six wickets and with it crucial runs in the first eight overs.

Kenilworth’s third pair of George Baines and Noah Smithson steadied the ship with a stand of 17 before captain Fred Barry and Cameron Williams-Stein put on 22 to enable Town to close their innings on 236.

Bidford made good early progress but were pegged back by two wickets from Josh Beeson.

The stage was set for a close finish with Bidford’s score having crept up to 223 with three overs remaining.

However, Barry then took two critical wickets, leaving James Sparks to bowl a tight final over and give Kenilworth victory by 14 runs.
