Grant Thornton had Sultan Mahmood lbw with the seventh ball of the game but that was to prove the visitors’ only success as a magnificent second-wicket partnership of 277 lifted Attock to 280 for one at the close.

Captain Rawait Khan was first to bring up his century, compiling a masterful 143 not out, with opener Mohammed Qamar Khan playing his part with an unbeaten 122.

In response, Leamington lost wickets regularly and were never really in with a chance of victory as the hosts bowled with great discipline to restrict them to 194 for nine.

Mark Lewis top-scored with 35, while Nabeel Ashgar (32 not out) and Thornton (22) both played valuable innings to help Leamington maintain their unbeaten record.

Left-arm spinner Karim (5-32) was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts.

Fine individual performances from Ollie Currill and skipper Jason Butler fired Leamington 2nds to an ultimately comfortable victory at home to Attock.

The Birmingham visitors made a strong start thanks to Leamington’s typically generous donation of extras, but no one was able to go on to build a major score thanks to the second five-wicket haul of the season from Butler (5-67).

Jim Gethin (3-30) sniped out the last three batsmen as Attock were dismissed for 224.

David Hawkes shouldered arms to a ball that was far too straight and debutant Ross Briscoe fell lbw to a shooter but Currill dropped anchor to play a watchful innings.

The tempo increased with Simon Magill at the crease and his quickfire 60 put Leamington in the box seat.

Cameos from Butler and Gethins supported Currill and the young opener finished with a cultured, unbeaten 91 as Leamington sauntered to a five-wicket win with two overs to spare.
