Clarke stands out from the crowd at the first running of the Ryton 5

The inaugural Spa Striders-hosted Ryton 5 around Ryton Pools proved ideal for spectators with the 226 finishers taking in one small loop and two larger loops for a total of five miles.

Daniel Clarke was the first runner to take the acclaim of the crowd for a third time, with the Coventry Godiva athlete leading from gun to tape to win the Warwickshire Road Race League event in 26min 20sec.

There was then more than a minute to the next runner with Andrew Siggers (27:22) leading Kenilworth Runners’ men to the team prize.

Siggers was followed by Phil Gould (1st MV35 in 27:33), Stephen Page (27:35), Connor Carson (27:42) and Pete Hawkins (27:56) as Kenilworth filled positions two through six.

Other Kenilworth winners on the night were Mick Williams (1st VM55 in 32:27) and Dave Pettifer (1st VM65 in 33:51).

John Knibb was the first Leamington C&AC athlete in 29:04 (8th) which also gave him the win in the M45 age group.

Bryn Morgan, who leads the male under-20 standings, was again first in category and 37th overall in 31:17.

Despite many Striders working behind the scenes, their ladies were the first team home courtesy of Jo Kirby (5th lady in 32:38), Carolyn Wilkinson (6th lady in 33:07) and Clare Hinton (8th lady in 33:59).

Kenilworth’s ladies were second, with Laura Andrews (86th in 34:36) and Laura Pettifer (89th in 34:49) and Danielle Mohacsi (95th in 35:02) both posting PBs.

Kenilworth Runners made history in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series when the men’s senior team won the team prize in the Milton Keynes 10k.

It was the first time this millennium, and possibly ever, that a team has won all eight events in the series.

On the night, Paul Andrew led the team home with a season’s best time of 32:47 earning him third position. The winning team was completed by Andrew Siggers (4th in 32:54), Rich Simkiss (5th in 33:01) and Kyza Derby (21st in 35:51).

Dave Pettifer was 128th and 1st VM65 in 41:41.

The race was won in 32:21 by Michael Aldridge of Wootton Road Runners, who held off Leamington C&AC’s Andy Savery by 18 seconds.

Elaine Sherwin was 166th in 43:17 for third LV40, earning her second in the series.

Not far behind was Leamington clubmate Susie Tawney in 43:24, who consolidated her overall first in the LV50 category.

Simkiss was a worthy winner of the senior men’s category, winning three of the races, while Pettifer picked up the award for first VM65 with six wins.
