Chris Rand shines 
in cup competitions

Whitnash Windmill’s second open triples competition of the year attracted 24 teams from around the country.

Four games timed to 50 minutes were played with teams then progressing into gold, silver and bronze knockouts.

Players from the host club featured in all three finals.

Jean-Denis Scatena, Patrick Robiquet and Jeff Rand suffered a shock 13-0 defeat in the gold final despite winning their previous six games, while the silver competition saw David Mason, Edna Lewin and junior member Jack Such lose out in the final to Half Crown’s Jerome Rousseau and Jan and Dave Kimpton.

The bronze competition was won by Chris Rand and Ross and Carol Woodward, who edged a closely fought final 13-12.

Whitnash’s annual club triples competition was won by Lyn and Dave Roberts and Tony White, who received the Cavin Woodward Salver after beating Neil Muddeman, Pauline Ryan and Lin Rendall.

Jeff Rand won the club’s singles championship in his first year at the club, overcoming Maurice Rendall 13-7 in the final.

Jean-Denis Scatena, Patrick Robiquet, Jeff Rand, Neil Muddeman and Clare Revill all qualified for the main competition at the British Open singles.

Robiquet, Rand, Muddeman and Revill exited at the last-32 stage, while Scatena made it to the last 16 before losing out to Jamie Lewis.

Chris Rand beat Rob Connell to win the plate competition, with Carol Woodward knocked out in the quarter-finals.
