Quartermaine dominated the 60kg bout from the outset and went on to win on points, with coach Edwin Cleary underlining the one-side nature of the clash.

“He even had time to showboat, which is uncharacteristic of Danny,” said Cleary. “But in front of the England selectors he wanted to impress.”

Quartermaine will now go on to fight the winner of the match-up between current English champion Cory O’Regan (Bradford College) and Jack Wood (Wednesbury) on February 26, with York Hall in London one of the proposed venues.

O’Regan and Wood are due to meet on February 6 after the initial bout was postponed due to illness.

Quartermaine’s victory on Saturday moved him into the top ten in the England rankings at senior level.

Next up for him is a fight against number two-ranked Wood on a title-packed card at the Assembly on Saturday February 6.
