Beaton in fine form heading into business end of season

Steve Beaton enjoyed an excellent weekend in Killarney, making it to the quarter-finals on the Saturday in the Gleneagle Hotel Players Championship and the semi-finals of the John McEvoy Players Championship the following day.

On the Saturday, Beaton beat Luke Cheevers 6-0, Andy Jenkins (6-2), Joe Cullen (6-3) and Dean Winstanley (6-1) before losing 6-3 to losing finalist Jamie Caven in the quarters.

The next day Beaton went one better, starting with a 6-5 win over Joey Palfreyman before overcoming Johnny Haines 6-4, Vincent van der Voort 6-2, David Pallett 6-5 and Gary Anderson 6-4.

He then suffered a 6-2 defeat to eventual winner Kim Huybrechts.

Beaton is now up to 21 in the PDC rankings and believes he is coming into form at just the right time. He said: “I’m pleased I’m still playing good, consistent steady darts leading up to the Worlds and climbing back up the world rankings.”
