World War One show at All Saints church

It is being held in All Saints church, Leamington, and the material has been provided by members of the church congregation, the RAF Association and the Home Guard Association.

It was officially opened on Saturday by Leamington mayor Cllr John Knight, and later visited by Chris White MP.

In his opening speech, Dr. Stanley Ireland warmly thanked those who had helped in creating the exhibition and emphasised its poignancy as the country welcomes back the last of its troops from Afghanistan. The event also featured Richard Fisk’s map showing the houses of Leamington which suffered casualties in the 1914-18 conflict, and Malcolm Cooper wearing his replica 1914 uniform and equipment.

The exhibition includes such items as portraits of the heads of state of the six major powers involved, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the conditions of war, the terror tactics employed by Germany in an attempt to demoralise Britain, those from Leamington awarded the VC, and important events as seen through The Courier.

It will be open Wednesday - Saturday, 10am to 3.30pm until November 15.
