Women and children injured after car rolls on roof in tunnel in Warwickshire

Four people were injured after their car rolled on to its roof inside a tunnel on the A46 in Warwickshire.

The crash occurred on the A46, in a small tunnel just before Longbridge Island at around 4.30pm yesterday (Saturday August 22).

Two women and two children were in the car and managed to get out of the vehicle despite their injuries.

One of the women, who was in her fifties, sustainted serious arm injuries and also pain to her back, neck and abdomen. She received emergency treatment at the scene by medics and her condition was stabilised. She was taken by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

The three other people travelling in the car, a woman and two children, suffered multiple minor injuries in the crash and were treated at the scene. All three were transferred to hospital for further checks and treatment.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A car was found at the scene that had rolled over and come to rest on its roof.

“All four occupants of the car had managed to get out of the vehicle, even though one woman had suffered serious injuries.

“The woman, believed to be in her late fifties, suffered serious arm injuries and also pain to her back, neck and abdomen. She received emergency treatment at the scene by medics and her condition was stabilised.

“She was then transferred by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.

“The three other people travelling in the car, a woman and two children suffered multiple minor injuries in the crash and were treated at the scene. All three were transferred to Warwick hospital for further checks and treatment.

“Considering the circumstances of the crash the occupants are fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries.”
