A woman was taken to hospital after a crash in Southam.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a car crash on Thursday evening (April 16).

Firefighters from Southam, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Warwickshire Police all attended the incident which happened near the A423 and the A425 (Daventry Road) at around 6pm.

The incident involved a car crashing into signage and then into a tree.

Southam Fire Station posted on their Facebook page.

They said: "One car had left the road and collided with the island signage and then a tree.

"The single female occupant had managed to self-extricate just as we arrived.

"Southam Police were first in attendance, assisted with casualty care and helped hugely with traffic management.

"Ettington Community First Responder Team was passing on his way to work and stopped to assist with casualty care.

"West Midlands Ambulance NHS Trust arrived and following a handover and full assessment, transported the casualty to hospital.

"Although the roads are fairly quite at the moment please concentrate fully and keep yourself and everyone else safe.

"Hospitals need to be fully focused on Covid19 patients and the long term sick. They don’t need avoidable incidents to add to their workload.

"Stay at home, save lives and protect the NHS."

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called by the police at 5.59pm last night to a single vehicle RTC in which a car had hit a tree at the junction of the A423 and Daventry Road.

"We sent one ambulance and CFR to the scene.

"We treated one patient, a woman, who was the driver of the car for injuries not believed to be serious before taking her to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.”
