Warwickshre wind farm decision goes to the top

Sir Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Local Government, will be making a decision himself on whether Broadview Energy should have been refused planning consent to build its proposed five-turbine wind farm on land in south Warwickshire.

The energy firm appealed Stratford District Council’s decision to refuse consent to the Starbold wind farm near Bishops Itchington and Knightcote - and the matter was the subject of a planning inquiry held in Ettington in September.

Peter Rickett, senior press officer at the Government’s Planning Inspectorate, said that the appeal has now been recovered by the Secretary of State, who is expected to make his decision by April 25, 2014.

He said: “The Secretary of State can recover an appeal if he feels it is a substantial appeal or if it might have a significant impact on the country.”

It has been more than three years since Broadview first unveiled its plans for the wind farm. Since then, campaign group Feldon Residents And Wind farm Turbines (FRAWT) formed and has been leading a widespread campaign against the plans, which members say would be detrimental to the historic Burton Dassett Hills.
