Warwick Trident College gets new engineering building

The new £2.3 million complex will enable the college to train an extra 285 advanced and 253 higher apprentices in a variety of engineering disciplines, including manufacturing, mechanical, electronic, automotive, and product creation.

Construction was completed on time and within budget, and was truly a local build, with every aspect from the design, construction through to law covered by companies based in Warwickshire and Coventry.

The 18,500 sq ft building was designed by Warwick architects Hitchman Stone, and Leamington firm Greenways & Partners provided the mechanical and electrical engineers.

Legal services were provided by Wright Hassall, which is just a stone’s throw from the site, and the project’s quantity surveyors, Starkey Button & Co, are from Leamington.

John Vickery, the director of Estates at Warwickshire College Group, said: “It has been great to see the building taking shape and it does not seem too long ago that we were on site to start the development.

“It really showcases what working in partnership can deliver.

“The centre will play a key role in training young people in key sectors of our economy which will be good for them and beneficial to the growing industries we have on the patch.”

The project is being jointly financed by Warwickshire College Group and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership through a Government Growth Deal, which were set up to fund projects that benefit local economies.

Des Wynne, the director of AC Lloyd, said: “It is really rewarding to be working on a project that we know will benefit the area and its economy for years to come.

“We developed Warwick Trident College’s main campus building some 10 years ago, so it has been a privilege to be involved in this latest expansion.

The first students will start working in the building next week.
