Warwick Boat Club members smash fundraising record in 24-hour tennis drive

Hot sunshine and fatigue did not deter 16 hardy members of Warwick Boat Club, who played 850 games of gruelling tennis for 24 hours non-stop to raise funds for the Myton Hospices.

And the determined group raised more than £4,000 - making their event the single biggest privately organised fundraiser for the charity to date.

Starting at 2pm on June 7 and ending at 2pm the following day, the men were joined by MP Chris White, who played for an hour, while other ‘guest slots’ were filled by boat club coaches and team players.

Event organiser Simon Vetch said: “The lowest point was the ‘graveyard’ shift from 3am to 5am, when it was chilly, rather eerie and raining. But isotonic drinks, coffee and an unnerving will to continue saw the players through.”
