Walking for water

A group of Warwickshire College students survived on water and a bowl of plain rice for a day.

The 12 youngsters staged the event yesterday to raise funds for charity Wateraid and raw attention to the plight of people living in countries suffering from environmental disasters such as drought or flood.

After walking a mile to fetch five litres of water, the students, who have learning disabilities and are taking BTECs in Skills for Life and Skills for Working Life, tucked into their single meal of the day.

Romy Dixon, curriculum leader for the Skillbuilder and Wider Horizons courses, said: “The event is a great way for our students to show they care about their community and the wider world. All the money raised will go to a much-needed cause, so if you can, please sponsor them and show them your support.”
