Visitors to woodland must obey the rules

WOODLAND management work taking place in Oakley Wood in Bishops Tachbrook will mean parts of the area will not be open during September and October.

Warwick District Council, which manages the wood, is advising people to obey all signs and notices posted while work is taking place, follow any directions or requests issued by contractors and refrain from entering work areas or crossing hazard tape or other safety barriers.

Visitors must also maintain a safe distance from machinery at all times and keep control of their dogs and they must not climb on stacked timber.

The work is taking place to thin the area so that trees are allowed to continue growing healthily, helping the woodland eco-system and wildlife, as increasing the number of layers in the trees increases habitat value. Most of the trees in Oakley Wood are not native to Warwickshire and have much less value to wildlife than native trees. The council has adopted a management plan for the wood with the long term aim of returning it to being native woodland. This work is the first phase of that plan.
