Three vehicles were involved when a red Mitsubishi Carisma, a black coloured London Taxi and a silver Renault Laguna collided just after 8pm on Wednesday October 16.

A number of other vehicles came to a halt immediately behind the collision, giving the appearance of a much larger incident.

The southbound carriageway of the A46 was closed to traffic from the Festival Island at Coventry, fully re-opening at 4am on Thursday morning.

The female driver of the Mitsubishi Carisma suffered serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. She is believed to be in her mid-40s.
