Tribute paid to elderly couple killed by car crash

Police have confirmed the names of an elderly couple who died following a road accident in Blackdown.

The couple’s grey Ford Focus was in collision with a blue BMW in Bericote Lane at around 12.30pm on Sunday September 5.

The man, 95-year-old George Victor Leonard Breakwell, known as Len, died in the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire on Sunday September 12.

His wife, 89-year-old Ellen Margaret Breakwell, died in hospital on Tuesday, September 7.

They lived in Yardley in Birmingham.

Mrs Breakwell’s son John described his parents as “a most loving couple, always together”.

The driver of the BMW, a 35 year old man, is in a serious but stable condition at University Hospital, Coventry, where he has undergone extensive surgery on his legs.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the accident. Anyone who saw either vehicle before the crash, or who witnessed the collision itself, should contact Pc Alan Hepburn at the Greys Mallory road traffic base on 415415.
