Trees of Light is a way to support charity services

BY making a donation to the Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa’s Trees of Light campaign people can help improve the lives of cancer patients.

Money raised by the Christmas fundraising drive will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides practical, medical and financial support and pushes for better care for those with the disease.

As part of its ongoing work the charity has teamed up with the Warwick district branch of the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to create a benefits and welfare advice service for patients.

Karen Jones, Macmillan CAB welfare and benefits case worker, said: “The monetary gains we have made for people over the last 12 months have been about £200,000.

“We see a steady flow of people throughout the year but there can be a financial impact on patients and their families because of Christmas and we want to get the message out there that we are here to help.

“We want to highlight that we don’t just cover benefits we deal with all sorts of welfare issues including employment and housing.”
