Update: Myton Road cyclist treated for head injuries

A cyclist was rushed to hospital with suspected head injuries after a collision on the Banbury Road and Myton Road roundabout in Warwick on Thursday morning.

Ambulance crews and an air ambulance were called to the scene around 7.45am when the man in his 30s was involved in a collision with a van.

After being treated at the scene by paramedics he was taken by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: “The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital to be treated for head injuries following a collision with a van.

“The air ambulance was in attendance but the patient was transferred by land ambulance.”

Myton Road junction was closed for around 40 minutes after reports of the collision on Thursday morning.

Police closed the busy junction at Banbury Road just before 8am and traffic delays remained in place throughout the morning.

A statement from Warwickshire Police’s OPU team said: “Myton Road will be closed at the roundabout with Banbury Road for at least an hour.

“There is major congestion in Warwick due to the RTC on the Banbury Road. Avoid the area if possible.”

The delays are also affecting buses which have reported severe delays to services throughout the morning.

The road was reopened just before 9.30am.
