Thief targets two women in their 80s and 90s on Leamington street

Two elderly ladies were targeted by a handbag thief in Leamington, one of whom fell to the ground during the incident.

The thief snatched the handbag belonging to a 92-year-old women, who was walking arm-in-arm with her 84-year-old friend in Newbold Terrace on Sunday March 16 at about 5.30pm.

The 84-year-old fell to the ground as the 92-year-old pulled away in an attempt to chase the man, who ran off towards Jephson Gardens. She was helped up by a passer-by and was shaken, but not hurt.

The thief is described as a white, well-built man, aged between 40 and 50, with very short hair and was wearing a grey tracksuit and soft shoes.

The woman’s stolen handbag is black and made out of leather and contained a a black and green Radley purse.

It is believed that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident, including some waiting at an ice cream van, and investigating officers would like to hear from them.
