Superheroes Love Leam too

Superheroes descended upon a Leamington school to summon the creative powers of the town’s youngsters to take on Love Leam month.

Children at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School transformed themselves into their favourite comic book characters for the launch of a new competition to design a superhero for Leamington.

Youngsters are being challenged to create their own superhero inspired by the town as part of this year’s Love Leam extravaganza, organised by BID Leamington.

And the best designs will feature on a new card game to be produced by BID Leamington, with the overall winner also having their character made into a costume.

Sophie O’Keefe, aka Supergirl, Oscar Hackett, aka Spider-man, Daniel Bodely and Jack Dando, aka Batman, got into character at the Augusta Place school, with Mani Eames already entering into the spirit of the competition as self-styled Lightning Man.

Love Leam starts in the Valentine’s Day month of February and celebrates all the town has to offer over four weeks, each focusing on a different theme. Highlights include a vintage chic wedding fayre, special dance performance from Motionhouse Youth plus lots of arts and craft workshops for all ages.

The popular Fashion on the Move event will also be back when the streets will become a catwalk for some of the town’s clothing retailers with models sporting the latest trends and handing out hundreds of Love Leam goody bags.

Love Leam will get underway with hundreds of heart-shaped red balloons being positioned around the town centre on Saturday, February 14, and retailers being encouraged to create a red shop window display. And children of primary school age will be encouraged to come up with their own superhero design during the half-term holiday. Postman Pat will be visiting Royal Priors Shopping Centre on Wednesday, February 18, and will be in the Upper Mall at various intervals from 11am to 3.30pm, when there will also be the chance for youngsters to design their own superhero.

Other new attractions for this year include the Leamington Business Show on February 27 and Jobs Fair on March 5, both to be held at Leamington Town Hall.
