Steel pans will have drinkers at Harbury Beer Festival reeling

Perhaps for the first time ever, steel pans will accompany Morris dancing as musicians from Harbury Adults and Stratford U3A provide the music for Hereburgh Morris side’s traditional Saturday lunchtime slot on September 3.

The idea was born in a pub, when Brian Noon, of Leamington’s Steel Pan Academy, was joined by Morris dancers Peter McDonald and Alan Guy.

Mr Noon, who has played for 25 years, has arranged Hereburgh standards Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and the hymn Lord of the Dance for steel pans.

He said: “They are all basically reels, or they are the way we play them.”

Dancers will perform between 12noon and 2.30pm.
