Sports day was a sparkling success

YOUNGSTERS could not stop smiling on Saturday thanks to the hard work and organisational skills of staff from Warwickshire’s Integrated Disability Service.

The county council’s service hosted its first Sport and Healthy Living Day for children with disabilities and their families at St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre in Warwick.

Celebrity comedian Russell Howard was among the special guests who came along to enjoy the fun while representatives from the Coventry Blaze ice hockey team and cheerleaders from the Leamington Sparklers squad showed off their skills.

Sporting activities included boccia, curling, table tennis and basketball, and teams including Warwick Spartans Football Club aimed to recruit new players.

Senior short break worker Sam Powers, the main organiser of the event, said: “It was a massive success.

“Every single youngster I spoke to had a smile on their face and said they wanted it to happen again.”
