Richard Minney has organised the Rugby’s Strongest Man competition to sort the men from the boys and put his six years of experience to good use.

The 34-year-old from Hillmorton came second in last year’s England Strong Man competition in his 105-kilo body weight category.

After being successful in numerous competitions, Richard is using his expertise in truck pulling and log lifting to help organise Strong Man events around the country.

Rugby’s Strong Man competition takes place on March 5 at Peak Performance Gym in Somers Road.

Richard said: “It’s going to be a great day and there’s 50 men competing at the event. The competition places were booked up within 24 hours so I must be doing something right!”

There will be two categories at the event, novice and intermediate.

Richard came ninth in a European contest and said his biggest dead-lift to date was 320-kilos.

“It’s something I really enjoy and it’s good fun,” Richard said.

“I train three times a week in the gym and on Saturdays I do strong man training, which can involve all sorts from log lifting to atlas stone lifting.

“My job is quite physical so it helps with my training and keeps me fit.”

There will be a burger van and a bouncy castle alongside the competition on March 5 and entrance costs £1.50 per adult, children go free. Everyone is welcome to attend.
