Sculpture in Leamington will mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War

The metal sculpture titled Barbed Poppies has been created by artist Tim Tolkien and will be part of a developing sculpture trail around Jephson Gardens.

The sculpture is designed to sway lightly in the breeze as real poppies do, and will rust over time.

Leamington History Group has commissioned the piece and the project has been supported by Warwick District Council.

Mr Tolkien has designed several monumental sculptures, including the award-winning Sentinel at the Spitfire Island roundabout in Birmingham.

He is the great-nephew of J R R Tolkien the author of The Lord of the Rings, who grew up in Birmingham.

The unveiling and dedication of Barbed Poppies will take place at Jephson Gardens as part of the annual remembrance ceremony on Tuesday at 10.50am.
