Pupils step back in time to explore freedom
PUPILS at Sydenham Primary School and its partner Lighthorne Heath took a journey back in time for a Freedom Day this month.
The youngsters studied a range of topics including the life of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech, citizenship and more.
The year 4,5 and 6 pupils also had a surprise visit from an actor playing an abolitionist and former slave Olaudah Equiano. Having studied his life in the morning the children were able to ask him questions in the afternoon and learn more about slavery in the 18th century.
