Police officer pleads guilty to six child sexual offences

A former patrol sergeant with Warwickshire Police pleaded guilty to six child sexual offences at Birmingham Crown Court today.

These included sexual activity with a child and making indecent images of children, Birmingham Crown Court was told.

Christopher Cambray, 42, from Shrewley, was suspended from duty in December 2014 when he was first arrested and faced an internal misconduct process.

Speaking after the guilty pleas, Detective Inspector Vikki Reay, the officer who led the case, said: “Throughout the investigation, our key concern has been the welfare, protection and wellbeing of the children involved.

“Ensuring that those who commit crimes are brought to justice is our overriding focus, second only to preventing crime from happening in the first place.”

He was dismissed at the earliest possible opportunity following a special case hearing chaired by Chief Constable Martin Jelley in July, a decision which Mr Cambray had been trying to appeal against.
