Police continue to investigate rape in Leamington

Warwickshire Police are continuing to investigate a rape which took place in Leamington earlier this month.

The incident occurred on Riverside Walk in Leamington Spa, close to the River Leam off Newbold Terrace East.

The victim aged 19 was physically and sexually assaulted by a man unknown to her.

On Friday, a week after the incident occurred, police carried out checks to identify potential witnesses.

A total of 82 member of the public were spoken to and officers showed an E-Fit image of the suspect which they told had ‘not been made available to the public’ up to that point.

The suspect, who gave his name as ‘Thomas’, is described as being white, mid to late 20s, 5ft 9ins medium build, with dark brown hair.

He had a pale spotty complexion, bushy eyebrows, clean shaven and spoke with a local accent and was smoking a cigarette when he approached the victim.

The man was wearing dark blue jeans, a grey top with long sleeves and a black jacket.

T/Detective Chief Inspector Pete Hill said,

“I am particularly keen to hear from a male dog walker who walked passed the victim as she walked along the riverside footpath in the direction of the leisure centre.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who used the footpath between 5pm and 7pm on Friday 13th March 2015 as they may hold valuable information that could assist identifying the attacker.”

The E-Fit image will be released to the media in rhe coming days.

In the meantime anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 38 of 14th March.
