Young photographers in Rugby invited to walk on the wild side with Rotary competition

It’s that time of the year again for young people in Rugby to take off their lens caps, load up their memory cards and focus on the new Rotary Young Photographer Competition.

Young Photographer is one of many competitions where Rotary is involved in developing the skills of the future generation.

The aim is to encourage young people to experiment with different techniques and express their ideas through the medium of photography.

This year’s theme is Wild Nature, but be quick, as the competition ends on September 30.

Emma Tilley and Matthew Bubb, both students of Ashlawn School, Rugby, were previous winners of the Rotary Young Photographer Competition. Emma won both Junior & Intermediate Competitions and last year narrowly missed out on the Senior, but was awarded a Highly Commended. Matthew won the Intermediate with his photograph of an owl (pictured).

Both students decided to take a GCSE in photography this year - a year early - and both were very successful and passed.

Rotarian Terri Morgan, organiser of the competition, said: “Everyone in Rotary in Rugby is very proud of both Emma and Matthew’s achievements. Through holding our youth competitions, we aim to offer a platform for talent to shine. We have many competitions, Young Chef, Young Artist, Young Musician to name a few.”
