A Warwick-based charity is appealing to the public for support after losing the main source of its income.

Like many charities, the Warwick Ambulance Association (WAA) is finding the current climate hard as their fundraising events have been cancelled.

The WAA is run by volunteers and was established as a voluntary registered charity in 1988.

The charity provides first aid cover for many events including Warwick Pancake Races, Thai Festival and bonfire night to name a few.

As well as covering events the volunteers also offer first aid training to the community.

The pandemic has led to many events, which the WAA would have been supporting, to be cancelled or postponed. This means the charity's income has been affected and they are now appealing to the community for support.

Mike Cornes, a trustee, chair and coordinator for Warwick Ambulance Association, said: "Our 30 volunteers attend some 150 events per year and provide first aid facilities for up to 10,000 people at each event.

"We cover local and national sporting events, local and national election counts, carnivals and fetes, along with food, pride, and folk festivals and music concerts.

"Also covered are local bonfire celebrations, Christmas Light Switch-ons and Remembrance Services and multi day events like Riding for the Disabled.

"The Association has four ambulances, two medical treatment centres and two paramedic cycles and also provides first aid training for individuals, local organisations and companies.

"Like other charities due to the virus we are unable to raise any funds from our normal sources, whilst still having to pay all of our usual outgoings of £1,500 per month.

"This includes insurances for our ambulances and medical treatment units and all our headquarters expenses, along with rates, utilities and rental for medical gasses and so on.

"If anyone is in a position to make a financial donation it would be gratefully received."
